Since I am on my walk for “Water with Hope” across the country this is the first Thanksgiving I have not been with family, and the first one without my mother. It was a little sad, but God lifted my spirits by giving me the opportunity to serve Thanksgiving dinner to families in need.
This morning I joined hundreds of other volunteers at the San Antonio Convention Center to feed what organizers said would be 25,000 people by the end of the day. Right off the bat I was blessed by people of all ages who took time off from their families to be the “hands and feet of Christ.”
A little later when I came by to fill up his coffee cup he got teary eyed and his voice started to quiver when he said, “I can’t remember the last time someone made a fuss over me.”
A lot of holiday’s come and go, and memories are soon stored away in a clouded blur of the past. Not this one.
This is a Thanksgiving to remember. Miles away from home spent with people I didn’t know, but one I will be ever forget. A dear soul the world had passed by who blessed me with his humble gratitude…and I had the precious privilege of “making a fuss over.”
